Dear Dr Ann Matthews

An ode to a professor who has improved myself as an individual and as a poet.

Slaves to labor due

to the drive to keep

this civilization alive.

Aging past adulthood to

have assigned parent figures

dismiss ambition in relation

to rationality.

You induce questioning liminality.

Admire the purple walls.

Notice the emptiness

that brews between halls.

Read each line. Invite me

Pink dto alter time. Publicize decisions,

dedication. Not the carousel

of ‘luck’ instilled from within.

Rejuvenate influence not inspiration.

Signify the goodbye.

Through hesitation before

disembarking from a silly office

door. Never had a memory of

a teacher leave with me.

A sprout looking to reconvene.
